Engine Oil Vs Transmission Oil

Engine oils provides lubrication and minimizes the friction of the moving parts of your engine. The better oil you use, the more efficient your engine performs. Efficiency here means to reach the optimum output at the least work load. Before the power is generated from the engine and gets transferred to the wheels, the power goes through your transmission, be it manual, automatic or CVT.

If your transmission cannot perform at its optimum level due to frictions, the more power generated from your engine will be consumed by the mechanical operations of your transmission.

A general example:

An engine is capable of outputting 160hp at 4,500rpm at optimum level.

But due to frictions, power loss at the engine and transmission, the engine now performs at 150hp at 4500rpm or 160hp at 6,000rpm. This means the engine has to work harder to reach the maximum output. The most direct effect of this problem, translates into petrol cost and higher maintenance cost in long run because the user tends to step more on the gas pedal.

Most drivers knows the importance of using better engine oils to maintain their cars, but many has neglected the importance of using good transmission fluid.
